Following on the heels of our previous two Cabarets, the Cork Shell to Sea benefit gig on Wednesday night last was a splendid and resounding success. We were told we have a name for providing the best entertainment in town! Big thanks to Karan Casey and Niall Vallelly, Ger Woulfe, Mick Flannery, Hank and Ray, Diarmuid Ó Dálaigh and Con Creedon. Thanks too to Niamh who did the door all night and thanks to Tom O’Connor for getting it all started and getting the line-up together. With his contemptible inversion and perversion of events in Erris last Friday, Demsey is rubbing salt into the wounds of the activists who journeyed to Rossport to engage in democratic protest and, were greeted instead with its antithesis : Brown Shirted thuggery in the form of wanton batoning, punching, kicking, treading on, women being tossed over fences like capers, vilication, goading,etc, the list of Gardai brutality and veniality is endless. read full story / add a comment

Professor Enda McDonagh, the Chairman of the Governing Body of UCC, has announced the identity and remit of the "external and independent" person to review allegations of "corruption", financial mismanagement and bullying at the university. In a move that seems destined to delay rather than supplant a formal enquiry, the remit is to exclude all issues that have already been put before the Governing Body and to include input from Professor Michael Shattock, a co-author of the OECD Report on Higher Education in Ireland that is central to UCC's own restructuring plans (http://www.ucc.ie/en/restructuring/). The oversight of the review process by the very people either involved in, or investigating, the excluded allegations would appear to generate the potential for significant conflicts of interest. read full story / add a comment

Following last Friday's battering of peacful protesters in Bellanaboy by McDowell's Brown Shirts, Galway Shell to Sea activists in revulsion at this potlatch of violence and in solidarity with the put upon people of Erris picketed the Westside Shell Service Station for 90 minutes this evening eliciting sympathy and empathy from passers by and motorists in the plodding traffic who readily took our leaflets. read full story / add a comment

The aim of Friday’s day of action was to prevent Shell working for one day. Campaigners split into groups with the aim of blockading the quarries, where much of Shell’s materials come from, and blockading the ‘Shell highway’ which the workers travel down to get to work. read full story / add a comment

It seems that President of Ireland Mary McAleese has put her foot in it exposing the states intended attack on the Constitution before the official announcement supposedly being considered in secret by all State Parties. In her address Mrs McAleese indicated that the state focus is to be the ‘Home’ and not the Family. The independence of her office must preclude her from such insider knowledge. read full story / add a comment

In the title and text of this article, I CONSCIOUSLY INSERT ’SHELL’ into An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern's statement, because HE CONSCIOUSLY OMITTED IT. Saturday -Nov 11,from 5 to 6 PM ,Minnesotans for a United Ireland picketed a Shell Gas Station in South Minneapolis.It was windy and cold--and we got honks of support and several cars stopped to ask about the demo. read full story / add a comment

Inspired by last weeks action, activists have again targetted Shell with protest and direct-action in Reading. Overnight, activists reported that they had turned off the pumps at the Shell petrol station on Shinfield Road, Reading using the emergency shut-off switch on the wall of the shop, ready for the morning rushhour on 10th November. Later in the evening, 8 people held a protest outside the garage shop, opposite the pumps, giving out 200 leaflets and holding a banner demanding "S-HELL OUT OF IRELAND!" read full story / add a comment
