Often enough in the country I live in, America, the idea corporations are helmed by heartless people that don't care about the welfare of the workers underneath them, is attributed to propaganda from the political left. In fact, the only party in America (as we really have only 2 choices) that is associated with the left often marginalizes such talk, except when they are campaigning of course. We have been fed a steady diet laced with the idea all things favoring "workers are bad." This has been going on at least since the early 1980's, and, whether Republican administrations in talk backed up by action or Democratic administrations in actions that go against their rhetoric, workers have been labeled as bad guys while corporations are presented as victims. read full story / add a comment

It is becoming more transparent, with each passing day, that the British Tory Government is working relentlessly to dismantle the Irish peace process and escape responsibility for decades of war crimes in Ireland including murder, corruption and human rights violations.Reports submitted by the Committee on the Administration of Justice, Relatives for Justice, British-Irish Rights Watch recently submitted to Congressmen Chris Smith and Senator Ben Cardin, Co-Chairs of the Committee on Security and Cooperation in Europe read like a Nazi war crime file. read full story / add a comment

Its worthwhile having a look at who has what when it comes to nuclear weapons*. • United States: Approximately 5,000 total warheads: 1,737 deployed strategic warheads, approximately 500 operational tactical weapons (some 200 deployed in Europe), and approximately 2,700 reserve warheads (active and inactive) in storage. • Russia: Approximately 5,500 total warheads: 1,492 operational strategic warheads, approximately 2,000 operational tactical warheads (not deployed), and approximately 2,000 reserve warheads in storage. • China: About 240 total warheads. • France: Fewer than 300 operational warheads. • United Kingdom: Fewer than 160 deployed strategic warheads, total stockpile of up to 225. * http://www.armscontrol.org/factsheets/Nuclearweaponswho...swhat read full story / add a comment

Racism is definitely not a "new fruit" in Greek society and not a unique phenomenon to this country. I have witnessed it with my own eyes as it manifested throughout the years I was living there so I can share with you a little knowledge of how it ripens. In Greece being different is not a good thing, as you will suffer a lot if you are a minority! Your life will be a living hell, if you are a woman or find yourself in a minority like being a lesbian, gay, gypsy, Pakistani, Albanian, Egyptian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Nigerian... In other words it will take a lot of effort to escape being discriminated against and that's without mentioning the people that are prepared to stand up for all these people, the likes of socialists, autonomists, anarchists, people that volunteer in NGO's or anyone that cherishes humanism/altruism. For people to fit in, in a land the locals like to call Hellas (and of the sun) to survive within it is to stay silent and live life in a comatose state. read full story / add a comment

The story that needs to be told about the massacre at the Lonmin mine in South Africa, will not come from the capitalist mainstream media, nor be told by the South African government. The story must come from those of us who wont allow for the critical questions behind the death of so many compañeros go unanswered. This is but a humble contribution towards that aim. read full story / add a comment

If there were a lightening rod to energize political apathy in this heavily propagandized world democratic right of dissent, such as to challenge corrupt government practice, should be it. But certain U. S. leaders’ apparent intention to incarcerate and punish Julian Assange for leaking U.S. secrets puts our black methods in the limelight. What were his motives and equally what has been the character of U.S. foreign policy? It seems revelations were meant to highlight U.S. corruption as people around the world have come to fear American brutality. Many around the globe know the United States as a rogue bully of an empire that regularly uses intimidation to get its way. It takes a real macho government to push around countries like Ecuador, Sweden and lapdog England. As has been shown over and over the United States does not respect law, legal distinctions or diplomatic norms. read full story / add a comment

Clearly, the usual suspects are using this totally hyped media trial to get the dig they promised in at Russia after it didn't play ball regarding Assad in Syria. Apparently even RTE has it's instructions to do a hatchet job. You have to laugh at our own extended segment RTE propaganda tour de force on last nights "prime time". It's quite funny to hear everyone saying "pussy" with a straight face on prime time catholic Ireland TV. Don't they realise it's NOT tiddles the cat we're talking about here! ;-) read full story / add a comment

The Little People speak out on behalf of the little people. We Leprechauns, friends of the Irish People, hereby give notice of our latest collective decision, and address ourselves to that social grouping commonly known as the Irish political class. Down through the ages we have strained every nerve on your behalf: we have always aided you when you were sorely prest. The marauding Danes, robbers of the chalice, landed long ago; when Brian Boru and his fighters overcame them, we guarded the gold they left behind: in pots, in bags, under rocks, beneath crags, we kept it safe. read full story / add a comment

Generally in the West individuals, in a quailfied way, are free to express their views independently of how subversive those views may be. They are even, in a sense, free to organise themselves against the government. Marxists even become professors in bourgeois universities. Given that capitalist society is defined by Marx as inherently oppressive it appears as an inexplicable contradiction that it should have this free and just character in the West while still retaining its inherently exploitative and oppressive character read full story / add a comment

Jeff Immelt, the chief executive of General Electric was interviewed by the Financial Times at the weekend . He told the paper that « nuclear power is so expensive compared with other forms of energy that it has become “really hard” to justify « . On the face of it ,Immelt's comments would seem to be at odds with General Electric being one of the world’s largest suppliers of atomic equipment. So what is going on ? read full story / add a comment

On Monday 18th June 2012, a group representing some of the bereaved Omagh families presented Northern Ireland Secretary of State Owen Patterson with a specially commissioned report claiming that the atrocity could have been prevented by both governments. After the meeting, a spokesperson for the families in a delicately veiled threat called on both governments to respond positively or face a court challenge. The relatives also told the waiting media “we have brought together all available evidence on the case and showed where the authorities on both sides of the border could have prevented the bomb attack on Omagh.” The report was commissioned from a group of London-based-consultants and is said to contain ‘fresh information’ on the Omagh bombing. There are some issues surrounding the report that are questionable and it would be in the public interest to know exactly who financed the commissioning of the report. read full story / add a comment
