There is to be a public meeting on Iraq during west Belfast Belfast.

IRAQI SOCIALIST TO SPEAK IN BELFAST

The Belfast Socialist Forum is hosting a public meeting on Iraq as a fringe event during the West Belfast Festival. The main speaker at this meeting will be Hani Lazim (1) of the British-based organisation, Iraqi Democrats Against Occupation (2).

INFORMATION:

TITLE: IRAQ UNDER OCCUPATION

VENUE: AN CHULTURLANN, FALLS ROAD, BELFAST

TIME: 7.00PM

DATE: THURSDAY 7TH AUGUST 2003

NOTES:

(1) Hani Lazim is an Iraqi exile who lives in Britain.

(2) Iraqi Democrats Against Occupation (IDAO) was formed by a group of progressive Iraqi activists who have been involved since 1991 in the committee of IRAQI DEMOCRATS AGAINST WAR AND SANCTIONS. The formation of IDAO was in recognition of the new political situation inflected on Iraq by the war. It is committed to continuing the campaign of solidarity with the Iraqi people in their struggle to end the illegal military occupation and to build a free, democratic and united Iraq.

Hani Lazim will be available for press interviews on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th August.
