Why do we fail to deport those whom we should deport? It's due in the end, says Dr David McGrogan, to an excess of pity. We are pitying ourselves into disorder and social decay. We need to be willing not to be nice.

Anarchists call for Fintan Lane's release

category national | anti-war / imperialism | press release author Wednesday December 03, 2003 13:50author by Workers Solidarity Movementauthor email wsm_ireland at yahoo dot comauthor address P.O. Box 1528, Dublin 8 Report this post to the editors

The Workers Solidarity Movement has written to the Mnister for 'Justice', calling for the release of Fintan Lane.

Get your organisation to do likewise.

More importantly, come to Shannon on Saturday 6th and carry on Fintan's work to stop the airport being used by the war machine.

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform,
72-76 St Stephen's Green,
Dublin 2

Dear Minister,

The Workers Solidarity Movement calls for the immediate release of Dr Fintan Lane from Limerick prison. This anti-war activist is in jail because he has refused to pay a fine imposed when he took part in a mass trespass at Shannon airport on 12 October 2002.

The Irish people have made it very clear in every opinion poll and in last February's massive anti-war demonstration, that they do not want Shannon airport to play any part in the war machine. They were ignored. So, some decided to take action themselves.

Courageous people like Dr Lane acted to disrupt the military use of Shannon. We agree with his assertion that "innocent people are being killed in Iraq and Afghanistan by the war machine that is being facilitated at Shannon airport. What is happening is an outrage, and it is no exaggeration to say that Fianna Fail and the PDs have blood on their hands."

We do understand that much of your time is taken up with overseeing the jailing of bin tax protesters, building workers who oppose the black economy and anti-war activists. Clearly there is not much time left for investigating the cases of building firm bosses who illegally refuse to register their employees for the pension fund, or the landlords who illegally refuse to register their properties with the local authority. But if you get a minute or two, maybe you could look favourably at the call for the release of Dr Lane.

Yours sincerely

James McBarron,
National Secretary

I know it for a fact that a letter like that would not even be seen by the minister. Do you know how many crank calls and crank letters the government receives every day??

That's been passed on to the Branch. The Minister never even saw it.

If you consider yourself a supporter of Fintan Lane, please keep the comments constructive.
