How to get to Peace Camp in Shannon

press release
Monday June 14, 2004 18:01 by Terry Clancy - Ambush 2004

Details of schedule for the establishment of peace camp in Shannon for Bush visit. Directions to Hurler’s Pub: The First Camp:
From Dublin:
Come off new roundabout at beginning of new Limerick by-pass. Finnegan’s pub is at this roundabout. Follow signs for Limerick/Annacotty. Keep going past Lodge Hotel on right and Superquinn Shopping Centre on left. Hurler’s Pub is just beyond the roundabout at Esso garage. Most Dublin to Limerick busses stop here.
Phone: 087 7786938 at this juncture to get to the place (don’t use this number before then).
This camping area is available from Monday 21st for people who wish to come down and help with the establishment of the peace camp (henceforth second camp). The first camp is totally legal, on land belonging to one of us, but is on the far side of Limerick, a considerable distance from Shannon. It is also available during the protests.
We particularly need people to come down for the Thursday to take the second camp. Which is to be on public land, in the Shannon area. We are aiming to have it established before Friday June 25th, to be ready for any influx of people, to have it held before people arrive for the demonstrations looking for somewhere to stay or to know to implement contingencies. In particular we need volunteers with vans/cars for the Thursday.
Such people should get to the first camp at least by Thursday morning.
For going to the second camp we have an assembly point: Limerick Train/Bus station at one pm Thursday June 25th.
Bring to the second camp: People are advised to come to the Shannon area prepared to spend at
least two overnights, with the following basic equipment: good pair of walking boots, flexible but warm clothing, small light tent, light rucksack, poncho or groundsheet, emergency food supplies, water bottle, small torch, one change of basic clothing in case of wetting, small water heating camping burner, thermos flask, consider bringing a bicycle for mobility, but not an expensive one. This is not Witnness, leave the drink and drugs at home. There are 3 potential sites for this camp, so we have fall back options.
The first camp is totally legal, the second is in the general Shannon area and on public land. Groups just looking for accommodation and travelling to the demonstrations should factor into their travel planning a means of getting from the Shannon area back to Hurler’s Pub. Again as with the second camp this is self-organised, bring food, tent, etc…
Disengagement from second camp takes place on Saturday June 26th after the demonstrations. If necessary people can stay that night at the first camp.
