I'am in total solidarity with the anti war protesters, my heart bleeds for the innocent men, women, and children of Gaza who are been slaughtered by the Zionist state of israel and the world stands idly by, shame on it, and SHAME on the incompetent, and Dysfunctional United Nations Security Council that are supposed to protect innocent people who are under attack by a brutal aggressor, they are a complete joke. I have to add that it has many brave workers on the ground in Gaza may God protect them, and alsO all the other aid workers.

So called Un Security Council bow your heads in SHAME.

UNITED NATIONS (IPS) - Disappointed with the Security Council's inaction regarding the worsening situation in Gaza, diplomats from numerous nations of the global South are close to taking the case of Israeli aggression to the United Nations General Assembly.............................Unlike the Security Council, the UN General Assembly does not have the power to implement its resolutions by force. But its verdict on international issues of war and peace is considered as important because it is based on majority vote on an equal basis.

America’s ambassador to the UN Zalmay Khalilzad said today regarding a UN backed proposal for a ceasfire:

“We did not want them to have false expectations”

The Israeli daily Haaretz (before the shelling of the UN schools today) quotes 'UN sources' as saying Khalilzad had been ordered by the State Department to:

“torpedo any initiative proposed by the Arab bloc which is designed to grant the Security Council the status of an official arbiter that will have direct involvement with disentangling the Gaza crisis.”

Negotiations between Nicholas Sarkozy and Hosni Mubarak this evening seem to indicate the Zionists have received new pressure from the US to stop their aggression. World fallout from the attacks on the two UN schools and the many civilian deaths coupled with the realisation that Israel is not going to achieve any of their stated objectives is driving the US to put pressure on Israel to cease the murder. Hamas already has a delegation in Egypt and according to Sarkozy Israelis will be travelling there in hours.

As usual the UN is useless.

Gaza – end the slaughter!

Speech by Freda Hughes, Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, at the Irish Anti-War Movement demonstration outside the Israeli Embassy, 5.30pm, Tuesday, 6th January 2008.

Massacre Since the start of the savage Israeli onslaught on Gaza the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) has protested on a daily basis, mobilising 3,000 people on Saturday last in Dublin and hundreds of people in demonstrations in Cork, Sligo, Galway and elsewhere, to demonstrate the solidarity of the Irish people with the people of Palestine.

The death toll is now over 600, another 3,000 people are injured and maimed, and 15,000 people have been displaced and made homeless. This is a war-crime of horrendous proportions and, in the words of Professor Falk of the UN, a crime against humanity. Today 40 people – children – were massacred in an Israeli tank attack on the UN School.

Israel bears full responsibility

Let us make no mistake about it, Israel bears full responsibility for the terrible killing of the last ten days. It had it in its power at any time to halt the Hamas rocket attacks on Israel – simply by restoring the ceasefire which had been in place since June 2008 and which it broke unilaterally with the killing of six Palestinians in Gaza on November 4th, when the eyes of the world were elsewhere, watching the electoral victory of Barack Obama in the US.

Israel is acting with impunity as the International Community looks on and wrings its hands.

Palestinian Right to Resistance

The IPSC supports the Palestinian right to resistance. While seeking a peaceful solution, they have a right to resist: They have watched their land being grabbed, settled and whittled away on a daily basis and have been subjected to an illegal and brutal occupation since 1967. Since that date Israel has planted 500,000 settlers on stolen Palestinian land – illegally - and confined the Palestinian population to enclosed Bantustans and imprisoned towns, villages and camps. Under the Geneva Conventions of 1949 Israel is supposed to protect and defend the population of territory it occupies. Indeed, under international law that occupation itself beyond the 1967 borders was meant to have ended long ago. Under Geneva, an illegally occupied population subject to criminal occupation policies has a right to defend itself, to resist. How can French resistance to Nazi occupation in World War II be lauded and celebrated, while Palestinian resistance to Israeli occupation is condemned as \'terrorism\'? Palestinian resistance is the resistance of the desperate – they would swap it any day for a peaceful solution, a solution that is available but is rejected by Israel.

Hamas is part of the solution

Hamas is the elected representation of the Palestinian people, and thus will be part of the solution. Israel’s arrogant claim to a right to exterminate the political and military leadership of Hamas is a brutal crime. In January 2006, Hamas contested the elections to the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) and won a majority of the seats. Hamas spokesmen made it clear that they were seeking a long term truce with Israel, the price being Israeli withdrawal from the Occupied Territories. This opportunity for a peaceful phase in the Middle East development was thrown away by Israel.

Nevertheless, brokered by Egypt, a ceasefire was put in place in June 2008. Israel agreed to cease military operations in Gaza and its economic strangulation of Gaza in exchange for Hamas and other groups ceasing the firing of rockets into Israel. The agreement brought about comparative quiet along the border between Israel and Gaza for over 4 months, even though Israel failed to honour its commitment to lift its economic blockade of Gaza.

Illegal Israeli Blockade

Israel – supported by the West – has implemented a boycott of the elected authority and arrested and imprisoned elected Hamas members, including the Speaker of the PLC – and nearly all of them are still detained (joining the 11,000 other Palestinians incarcerated in Israeli jails). Three years Israel launched a remorseless economic and military blockade of Gaza, turning this highly congested area of 1.5m inhabitants into a massive enclosed prison – a concentration camp. It has reduced the population of Gaza– most of whom are refugees expelled (ethnically cleansed) from elsewhere in Palestine - to poverty and to the verge of starvation. Over 80% of Gazans are now reduced to almost total reliance on international aid for their daily food. Our own then Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern, denounced this blockade to the Dáil on 11th March last as \"collective punishment … illegal under International Humanitarian Law.\"

We call for:

o We call on the Irish people to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people;

o We call on Minister Martin to suspend diplomatic relations with this rogue state of Israel, to expel the Ambassador of Israel and recall the Irish Ambassador in Tel Aviv, until Israel ceases its criminal and murderous campaign in Gaza;

o We demand that the UN ensure the opening of the borders to Gaza to enable emergency humanitarian aid into the area, regardless of the bullying and ruthless threats of Israel;

o We call on Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin, to insist in the EU Council of Ministers on the suspension of the EU trade agreement with Israel under Clause 2 of the Association Agreement;

o We call for a restoration of the ceasefire under terms which the international community must enforce, including the opening of the Rafah crossing and the ending of the economic and political blockade of Gaza, as wellas of the West Bank;

o We seek a solution in Palestine which secures for Palestinians their national and democratic rights. Only then will there be a settlement.

The IPSC would like to thank the Irish Government for its forceful stand, and the other political leaders who have bravely stood up to be counted during this horrendous slaughter:

- Minister Martin & Taoiseach Brian Cowen (FF) for their forceful demand for an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and reinstatement of the ceasefire under international supervision;

- Prionsias de Rossa (Labour MEP) for succeeding in getting the EU Parliament to withhold its agreement to the upgrade of Israeli trading privileges with the EU;

- Mary Lou McDonald (SF MEP) for her indefatigable work on behalf of Palestine at local, national and EU level;

- Jim Higgins (FG-MEP) for his formal demand to the European Commission to suspend EU Association Agreement with Israel;

- Many TDs for their support and their actions on behalf of the persecuted people of Palestine in the last weeks (especially Michael D. Higgins TD, Chris Andrews TD, Gay Mitchell MEP and others)

- Aengus O Snodaigh TD (SF) and Chris Andrews TD (FF) for their bravery in sailing with the blockade busting boat into Gaza despite Israeli death threats;

- Cllr. Daithí Doolin (SF, Dublin City Council) for his success in getting DCC to adopt a motion summoning the Israeli Ambassador to appear before the Council and answer for the terrible crimes of his government

- Patricia McKeown and the leadership of the Irish Trade Unions for their brave stance on Palestine and their call for economic sanctions against Israel.

Finally, I would call on everyone to attend a special IPSC Public Meeting this Saturday (10th January) in the Mount Herbert Hotel, Lansdowne Rd at 4pm (after the IAWM demo).

That is all well and good going on about Gombeen men, but this war has to be fought to remove the threat of radical Islam being seen as a valid option of Govt. in any part of the world. The guys shouting Allah Hu Akbar, on the streets of Dublin are the reason, why I hope that Hamas get bombed to eternity. It is rough on the civilians, but we have to look at were the threat is coming for us.

Oh, so the Palestinians of coarse don't have any responsibility on themselves! They are little childern made to be what they are by the west!
Let me tell you three things:
1. It seems they knew very well how to massacre well before that, since they started it already on 1921, 1929 and 1936-1936, much before there was any occupation or evil Zionist state.
2. On the same way, should we say it's not the Israelis fault they are the monsters they seem to look, since its the West who made them so, by killing 3rd of them and making them terribly paranoid, and Hamas rhetorics about never-ending-war, Jihad and massacre of all Jews doesn't help it, isn't it?
3. What a fool these Israelis are, trying to make a genocide and warning the people by phone and by leaflet to move themselves in order not the get killed.

Blaming other people for the behaviour and appaling record of the IDF is infantile and will convince nobody.

Time for Israel to grow up and act like a democracy instead of like a blood-crazed psychopathic thug relying on PR for damage limitation.
