The Israeli state is to release all 680 detained members of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla immediately - although the process is expected to take up to 48 hours. This number includes, according to official Israeli sources, 9 Irish people. It has also been reported by the Irish Embassy in Israel that Irishman Dr Fintan Lane was "roughed up" during interrogation by Israeli officials, but that he is in good spirits - the news came in a conversation with Dr. Lane's father Jim. The Freedom Flotilla was hijacked by Israeli commandos on Monday morning in an attack that left at least 9 passengers dead. read full story / add a comment

The Gaza Freedom Flotilla is now in the final stages of its mission to Gaza, as it set sail from the waters outside Cyprus at 12.30pm today toward its final destination. Despite the loss of several Irish passengers - including politicians Aengus O Snodaigh TD, Chris Andrews TD and Sen. The Freedom Flotilla to Gaza, which includes 11 Irish people, expects to arrive at it's destination within 48 hours despite Israel's vow to block the mission from delivering much needed aid to the beleaguered coastal strip. A forum of seven senior Israeli ministers who met on Wednesday 26th May have decided that the Israeli Navy will enforce a twenty mile exclusion zone around Gaza and will arrest all 800 crew and passengers taking part in the Freedom Flotilla should they pursue their mission to break the ongoing siege of Gaza. read full story / add a comment
