ARAN is launching our new winter anti-fur campaign called ‘Drive Fur Out of Ireland’ - a first for Ireland once again! Kicking off in Limerick city, the campaign will tour across Munster during the month of November and will visit Shopping centre’s, clothing stores, art and design colleges and much more, of course our tour would not be complete without us inviting the media along, every step of the way!

A German nuclear safety expert says Germany faces a shortage of nuclear safety experts because it’s due to end nuclear power production by 2020. Christian Küppers, of the Darmstadt-based Öko-Institut and a member of the government's advisory Radiation Protection Committee, says new plants in Germany are designed to withstand an air crash, old ones are not.

The arrival of CIA torture rendition plane N475LC at Shannon at about 1.20 am this morning was witnessed by Edward Horgan, Conor Cregan, and Garda Pat Harte and Garda Karen Fitzgerald, who were watching Cregan and Horgan at the time. Immediate requests for this plane to be searched were immediatly refused.

Photos of this aircraft taken at Shannon can be found at this web address:

Yesterday, Galway Food Not Bombs in its ongoing campaign to attenuate the slaughter and war mongering of this world fed people for free in Shop street rather than murdered them with bombs. However, based on Fareed Zakaria opinion, next Sunday's banner will read; Tranquillisers Not Bombs : "the American discussion about Iran has lost all connection to reality. . . . Iran has an economy the size of Finland's. . . . It has not invaded a country since the late 18th century. The United States has a GDP that is 68 times larger and defense expenditures that are 110 times greater. Israel and every Arab country (except Syria and Iraq) are . . . allied against Iran. And yet we are to believe that Tehran is about to overturn the international system and replace it with an Islamo-fascist order? What planet are we on?." http://counterpunch.org/moayedian10272007.html

Afghanistan was the first target in 2001 in revenge for the 9/11 attacks on the US. Ireland offered Shannon airport to the US for this attack.
The attack on Iraq had no such revenge motivation, just a grab for oil, as recently confirmed by Alan Greenspan, former US Treasury secretary. Ireland has allowed 1 million US troops pass through Shannon since March 2003.
Now, Iran is the next likely target, probably within the next few months. Shannon and Irish airspace will again be used in direct and indirect support for any such attack on Iranian nuclear facilties. The fallout once again will be human lives, but this time there will also be nuclear fallout. It is long past the time for action to prevent Ireland's participation in these crimes against humanity.

Up to one hundred students yesterday protested outside the Dáil over inadequate grants and their late payment.

It was a far cry from the demonstrations in 2001 and 2002 when over 20,000 students took to the streets across Ireland to demand an increase in the grant to cover the cost of living. Nonetheless given the inertia of the student movement over the last few years it was a welcome step forward. Most of the students came from Trinity and UCD with some members of Labour Youth and Ogra Sinn Fein present. read full story / add a comment
