In 1973 the democratically elected Allende government which was trying to improve conditions for the Chilean workers and peasants was overthrown by a US backed dictatorship. The thug Pinochet was put in power. It slaughtered tens of thousands of workers and peasants. Pinera the President of Chile we see with his phony grin and his brother were backers of the dictatorship. We need to reach out to the miners to help them use their worldwide fame and strength to organize an international tour to organize the organized and to build solidarity with all workers. read full story / add a comment

Among the taxation proposals being mooted by government for the next and subsequent budgets is an extension of tax to the lower paid. This is to be accompanied by continued draconian reductions in the provision of health, education and other services required by the population generally and particularly by the poor. Government cuts and impositions on the poor and those on middle incomes who spend most of their income in Ireland will flatten the economy and increase the disastrous levels of unemployment and emigration. read full story / add a comment

We all remember the slogan's so well, 'Yes for Jobs and Investment', from the soldiers of misfortune, 'Yes it's that important' from the latte supping continental sophisticated lot, and even got exposed to a pair of melons and a tight pair of EU branded Speedos in a sexed up poster campaign from the blue shirts, all in promotion and pursuit of a yes vote for the Lisbon Treaty this time last year. read full story / add a comment

Smithfield HORSE market in Dublin 7 is held on the first Sunday of every month. It has been held every month for almost 280 years. Last Sunday the scene there was akin to a scene from Mad Max the movie. A tiny foal was abandoned in a sad neglected condition, two punch ups broke out with crowds charging dangerously to get a closer look. A man was spotted carrying a sword and Sulkies and 4-wheeled carts were raced around the roads despite the best efforts by Gardai to stop this. The incidents of two wheeled carts being ridden with distressed horses and at immense speed around the city roads are increasing at an alarming rate.

"The neoliberals are fully in control of the bureaucracy, and they are reviving Margaret Thatcher's slogan, TINA: There Is No Alternative. But there is, of course. In the small Baltic economies, pro-labor parties have made it clear that the alternative to government shrinkage is to simply repeal the debts, withdraw from the Euro and break the banks. It is either the banks or labor - and Europe has just realized that this is truly a fight to the economic death. And the first test will come this Saturday, when Latvia holds its national parliamentary elections." read full story / add a comment

With all the talk of who should govern the country, and how much Brian Cowen drank.
There is still the fact that the Irish people are being led around like hapless sheep.
It would not matter a damn who got into power, because the banks, EU and the IMF
(in the near future) would be the ones calling all the shots. read full story / add a comment

We have spent billions on the LUAS tram rail which only stretches a couple of miles,in the city of dublin, and now we are having to spend a further couple of billion for a project that is over budget and already late for the schedule date! There is a market in ireland for a national connected rail, not just an over budget rail that only stretches a few miles from dublin to killiney..Bus services and train services in ireland are infamous for being uncordinated. There are places in ireland you still cannot get to,and in order to get anwhere in ireland you need a car,to travel, maybe it could even clean up road deaths.

In the decade of widespread access to information technology and all the sucess, it has brought few, there are still an abundance of laws that need to be amended. While the business elites were re packaging the internet which later became known as the user friendly World Wide Web. There are a lot of unresolved problems that have yet to be dealt with such as criminality on the internet, the buying and selling of stolen goods, weapons, human trafficing, snuff video's and of course, peadophilia. In some countries for instance it is not illegal to view naked images of young girls and boys. If European citizens are law abiding and have nothing to hide, they should have no problem with declaration 29.

A proposal to retain all Internet search traffic, known as "Written Declaration 29," was adopted by the European Parliament last week. Framed as a measure to crack down on paedophiles, the controversial Declaration calls on the EU to require that search engines store all search traffic for up to two year read full story / add a comment

Suspected Serial Killer In Ireland Freed by Irish Justice System

Larry Murpy was arrested by the gardai, after he kidnapped a woman and raped her,and was very close to killing her..Only for two deer hunters, actually came across her in a distressed state, muddied, bloodied, and with no clothing, she was brought into her local garda station by these two men,who then later tried to catch larry murphy with the gards in tow.

He was also suspected of killing a number of other women, and was even one of the top names on ireland's cold case list..
It is evident the irish justice system has let us down, when a man of such evil can not only walk the streets of ireland, but of spain.
As there is no RESTRICTION on suspected serial killers,(who are freed by the irish judicial system) travelling throughout Europe..
He was released 5 years early on good behavior, good behavior should be relevant to the crime committed..and in a cell with other predominantly male prison guards, surrounding the cells, how can this be proven.

fas ''employment'',for us or for them..

FAS,the troubled state agency has lost all credibility, and this has not just been recently, this has been happening for years, with the government of the state 'training educational' agency, standing by still in support of these 'services',to provide free labour, and continue to not pay the people making FAS happen, the ce workers.FAS pay employers who take on their FAS employees hundreds of euros, while the FAS ce or apprentices, get paid by social welfare, this is not a system that works for the unemployed, currently only 3 % of former fas workers are employed in the jobs market,so what good has FAS done for the unemployed minus themselves and thier business associates apart from making the dole stats look good, what use is that when FAS are draining our economy and providing no job oppurtunities across the board.
brainstorming for a new name will not solve the old problems in the well heeled FAS senior management.

It is with great despair that I read about the 6000 tip - offs to the Dept of Social Protection in last weeks papers. While I gladly welcome any crackdown on fraud, we must be mindful about the double edge side of this particular sword.
People have to remember that these so - called welfare fraud lines can be used by a person with an axe to grind with a person that they don't like or have falling out with in the the form a malicous and false call to the dept just to cause bother to that particular person. read full story / add a comment

In recent weeks, there have been a host of news reports, columns and internet blogs seeking answers to the growth of dissenting Republicanism. Much of which has focused on the morality surrounding armed actions. However, what many have failed to grasp has been the shift in ideological terms between mainstream and dissenting republicans. A much better description would be contemporary and socialist republicans.

On the 6th of September Monday,Brian Dobson today interviewed the Director of FAS 'services',Paul o Toole,he was given very few questions, and praised for his efforts in FAS,and so soon..

Fas are allocated a budget increases in the Dail every year, despite all the scandals(which are not one sided soundbites)..

FAS complaints have increased and the government and Rte's cronies are doing nothing to stop this or question it in a fair and equal manner.

By april 2011,what the new (or not so new) road user will need before applying for their test is £1,125 euros, and a lot of time on their hands,as they will be expected to undertake 20 lessons, after completing their theory test, which will set them back an extra 50 euros.

Not everybody passes their test on the first round, and the driving testers, sometimes have the wrong attitude and no people skills, and will just fail you for the smallest slight non endangering mistake. read full story / add a comment
