How times have changed. In the space of a few weeks ordinary things like going to the beach or swimming have become illegal activities, criminal acts. We have sleep walked into a police state and we are clapping our way through it.

We are told that the lockdown will have to continue indefinitely. We are told there will be more rounds of Covid-19 each worse the next. This is completely counter to most diseases which get milder over time. We are told when the lock down lifts, groups no larger than 10 will be allowed. What does that mean for flying, going to the theatre, cinema, concerts, football matches. Going to the beach, staying in a hotel.

Actually it’s pure crap and if we don’t wake up and reject this bullshit, we are totally fucked.

There was a reasonable turnout at Saturday's Water Charges protest in Dublin. There were two main assembly points, Christchurch and Connolly station and both groups met up on O'Connell street outside the GPO where the speeches were given and crowd generally entertained with music at the start and end.

Estimates for the numbers are hard to come back as it seems RTE, the government and media like to play down the numbers while the estimate from Right2Water seemed a bit high but it was probably somewhere between 10,000 and 20,00 in Dublin. read full story / add a comment

national / bin tax / household tax / water tax / photo-essay Wednesday September 02, 2015 23:32 by T   image 15 images
The Right2Water campaign had called for a national demonstration on Sat Aug 31st and quite a lot of effort had gone into publishing this with tens of thousands of leaflets distributed throughout the country and buses laid on to many of the major towns.

There was a fair bit riding on this because figures show that significant percentage of households had still not paid and during the summer the government plans were upset when EuroStat came back and said Irish Water had to appear on the government accounts.

In the meantime government ministers have been claiming it would not be privatized but when pressed on whether this is rock solid, they turn out to be quite slippy on this. And there is reason for this because the TTIP treaty between the USA and EU currently being negotiated in secret is a corporate wishlist that will allow corporations to sue governments through the Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) which are corporate courts run by corporate lawyers and take precedence over national laws and there is no right of appeal. It will allow corporations to say that it is unfair competition to have things like our health, education and of course Irish Water in state hands and therefore it should be privatized. This is not some myth because the ISDS mechanism has already been used at least 500 times in other countries for basically lowering health standards and environmental protection. If TTIP is passed and so far Fine Gael have been in favour of it, including the ISDS, then they will say their hands are tied and they had to privatize Irish Water and of course every other thing. read full story / add a comment

Bernie Dwyer will be with the Five and Cuba forever

The rhythmic sound of the waves and the warm sea breeze has harbored the ashes of a dear friend of Cuba, the Irish Bernie Dwyer, where were launched into our sea by Gerardo, Antonio, Fernando and René, along with the families and friends of the beloved social activist, who until her death, and even seriously ill, she continued to fight for the liberation of the Five. There was a good turnout yesterday, Sat 21st in Dublin for the anti-water charges demonstration. The plan was for the various groups to assemble at Heuston Station, Connolly Station and Merrion Square and converge at O'Connell brigde which they did. There were groups from all over the country, from Navan to Clonakility to Galway to Dundalk as well as thousands of people from the various communities in the greater Dublin area. Thousands and thousands arrived with banners, flags and placards of all types adding a lot of colour to the demonstration clearly showing this movement is still very much alive and vibrant and gives us all hope and confidence that we can still win. read full story / add a comment

There was large turnout at Saturday's Water Charges protest which the government probably hoped would be smaller but what Saturday shows is that the campaign is very much still alive and there plans for a bigger national march in a few weeks time.

The protest was organised by each of the local campaigns and the plan was for each of the different groups to meet and converge in the centre of Dublin. Those from Dublin West met up at Hueston station marched down the quays to link up with people from Dublin at O'Connell bridge. Meanwhile people from North Dublin met at Connolly and also converged at O'Connell bridge. read full story / add a comment

Ireland is waking up... Despite what RTE and others may say, anyone who was there knows that there were over 100,000 people present. Half of Dublin was brought to a standstill as a result of the rally as ordinary citizens spent the day on the streets, along with the hundreds of homeless people in evidence. read full story / add a comment

During the month of 2014 the Israeli stated launched a murderous war against the people of Gaza. They relentlessly bombed the Gaza strip which is perhaps one of the most densely populated areas in the world. People had no where to go and escape. Thousands of men, women and children were murdered by the state -perhaps even more were killed in that one month than they 30 years of conflict in Northern Ireland. read full story / add a comment

Project Overview
On a physical level the Corrib project comprises of a gas refinery 8km inland at Ballinaboy, an offshore section of pipeline 80km long from the beach at Glengad to the Corrib field 80km to the west under the Atlantic, and the 8km of onshore pipeline between the two, which is currently under construction.
The infrastructure of the project is spread over this area, while the secondary support infrastructure of roads and quarries etc extends further out.

Two of the images are from a Shell planning application, with some more detail of the project overlaid, to give context to the photographs that follow. read full story / add a comment
