In October 2011 Irish Republicans in six European countries organised the first International Day of Action for Irish Republican Prisoners of War. The situation of the protesting prisoners in Maghaberry has worsened in the previous months. Hence Irish Republicans set up the independent International Coordination Committee “Support the POWs!” to hold the second International Day of Action for Irish Republican POWs.

This year, on Saturday 27th October, the International Day of Action will be organised as a worldwide day of action with events in Sydney, New York City and various European cities such as Rome, Vienna, London, Utrecht, Paris, Darmstadt and Hamburg.

Friday October 5th marked the 35th anniversary of the murder of the great socialist republican leader, Séamus Costello. The Wicklow man was shot to death on Dublin’s North Strand by counter-revolutionary elements.

On Saturday October 6th a number of events were held in Dublin and Wicklow to remember Costello and pay tribute to his selfless sacrifice and service to Ireland and the working class.

At 11am up to 40 people gathered in Dublin’s north inner city at a new plaque erected in honour of Costello, near the spot where he was murdered on the North Strand Road. The plaque is one of a number recently erected by the Séamus Costello Memorial Committee. read full story / add a comment

There’s a lot of ways to advertise data plans, I’m sure. Advertising is plainly not my thing, but I’ve seen enough of it to be well aware that there are many creative ways to sell just about anything. Which is why I’m not certain why Meteor decided to do what they did. When you’ve a world of possibilities to choose from, why would it seem like a good idea to mock marginalised groups of people? I can’t say I get it. read full story / add a comment

Occupy Galway anniversary assembly disrupted by Gardai: Yesterday marked the 1st anniversary of the establishment of the Occupy movement in Galway. Between the Lisbrook house refugee eviction protest, the hearing of a spurious courtcase against two occupiers for "chalking", a subsequent spontaneous "chalking" reunion in the square and some heavy handed police action, it was not uneventful! ;-) read full story / add a comment

The BBC dominates the airwaves in Ireland, with Irish national broadcaster RTE still unavailable in most parts of British Occupied Ireland. Despite a peace process, the propaganda of the BBC still pollutes Irish politics and life. With the leader of the British Labour party, Ed Miliband calling for an independent inquiry into "horrific allegations" rather than a planned BBC internal cover-up of allegations on a BBC culture, of enabling child rape for decades. Many believe that the BBC's influence on the rape of children, to be of an even greater scale, than the Catholic Church. read full story / add a comment

Security at Shannon was over the top today as the monthly Shannon vigil took place in the wake of last Sunday's "outrageous" peace action by Margaretta Darcy, who at 78 years of age allegedly scaled the perimeter fence and with Niall farrell carried a protest on the main runway at Shannon against US military use of Shannon airport. read full story / add a comment

We were praying for a miracle but it never materialised. Germany came to Ireland thinking a 1-0 win would be enough to secure its place at the top of the group but found an Irish team just not up for the challenge. After nearly twenty minutes of two touch football all the tell tale signs where there for all to see, we were heading for a complete wipe out. Trap was lost for ideas and the players were just lost. Fifteen minutes before the end of the match I witnessed something I have never seen in an Irish team, they looked lost, dejected and void of any belief in themselves. Has Trap managed his last Irish match or will the FAI continue to whip a dead donkey in hope that the miracle everybody prayed for will will finally come true. read full story / add a comment
