"The whole scene appears like something from “Lord of the Rings”. Imagine it’s dark, real dark. On one side a happy, singing crowd, including some 70-year-olds and many teenies with colourful clothes, little fires to warm themselves....On the other side machines in fighting armour, truncheons, helmets and artificial light.....Machine-people who don’t move. Britain's seeing its biggest protest yet against the deep cuts the country faces to tackle its massive debts. Yesterday in London over 50,000 students protested against a planned hike in tuition fees which could see them treble to 9-thousand pounds a year. Later things got far more confrontational; students confronted police, entered conservative party HQ, smashed windows, occupied roof, lit fires in streets... Student fees protestors claim: 'This is just the beginning' read full story / add a comment

Resistance: which way the future? is a dual-screen interactive installation, comprising drama and documentary films and an immersive audio-video experience. It takes as its starting point the Nazi programme of mass-murder targeting disabled people and asks what this history means for all of us today. A timely and hopeful work, Resistance explores the marginalisation of a group of people and asks what can be done to make a better future. Recently returned from its run at Washington DC’s Kennedy Center, one visitor wrote: “One of the most powerful things I have ever experienced. I was so amazed by it, I went back to see it two more times. Each time I saw more and took more away from the experience. A month later it is still with me.” Susan Fitzmaurice In association with ABÄRA International Disability Film Festival read full story / add a comment

Anne Thompson SIPTU, Belfast SIPTU joined with thousands of other trade union members, workers and those currently struggling to get a job on the 23rd October at Belfast City Hall when the public made a clear stand against Tory government imposed cuts. The reckless slash and burn cuts by the Tory government will not as they claim, pave the way to recovery but rather lead the way to mass immigration and increase the extreme hardship faced by working families and the most marginalised and disadvantaged in society, while their banker mates are propped up by criminally extortionate salaries, bonuses and enhanced pensions enabled by the saviour of good honest tax payers monies - our money. read full story / add a comment
