Riots could sweep the streets of Britain if immigration is not curbed, Rachel Reeves said in 2016. Yet the now-Chancellor's prescient warning was nowhere to be found in Labour's response to the current disorder.

A weekend of workshops, talks and films will be held in Seomra Spraoi from 16th-18th November. The purpose of the weekend is to get people new to activism from various backgrounds and groups to meet up, get to know each other and learn from the experience of the current Gluaiseacht activists and others. We hope to create enthusiasm for the various campaigns and some formal and informal networks which would kick-start some serious activism through Gluaiseacht and the other groups invited to participate.

Internationally acclaimed writer and former CIA Whistle Blower, Mr. Philip Agee, will address a public meeting in Liberty Hall Theatre at 8 pm on Tuesday 20th November 2007. Philip Agee came to international attention when he revealed many of the CIA’s covert and illegal activities in South America. As a result, he was deported from Britain as a threat to the security of the state and was denounced as a traitor by George Bush Sr.

He will describe the undeclared terrorist war against Cuba launched by the USA - a terrorist war that has killed more than died on all sides during the "troubles" in Ireland - yet it remains unknown outside Cuba. Mr Agee's Europe tour has been curtailed due to ill health and he is unlikely to be able to attend any of the Irish events in person.

Venue Update

The Dublin event on 20 November at 8pm at Liberty Hall Theatre will continue as planned with a film featuring an extended interview with Mr Agee entitled "One Man's Story: Philip Agee, Cuba and the CIA". His prepared speech will then be delivered by a well-known Irish actor, followed by questions and answers. read full story / add a comment

US Troops pass through Shannon 24 Oct 2007

Afghanistan was the first target in 2001 in revenge for the 9/11 attacks on the US. Ireland offered Shannon airport to the US for this attack.
The attack on Iraq had no such revenge motivation, just a grab for oil, as recently confirmed by Alan Greenspan, former US Treasury secretary. Ireland has allowed 1 million US troops pass through Shannon since March 2003.
Now, Iran is the next likely target, probably within the next few months. Shannon and Irish airspace will again be used in direct and indirect support for any such attack on Iranian nuclear facilties. The fallout once again will be human lives, but this time there will also be nuclear fallout. It is long past the time for action to prevent Ireland's participation in these crimes against humanity.

Up to one hundred students yesterday protested outside the Dáil over inadequate grants and their late payment.

It was a far cry from the demonstrations in 2001 and 2002 when over 20,000 students took to the streets across Ireland to demand an increase in the grant to cover the cost of living. Nonetheless given the inertia of the student movement over the last few years it was a welcome step forward. Most of the students came from Trinity and UCD with some members of Labour Youth and Ogra Sinn Fein present. read full story / add a comment
