With just days to go before PETA’s Running of the Nudes (www.runningofthenudes.com) PETA members including an Irish activist painted in the Irish flag colors staged a creative event outside the Spanish embassy in London today at 12 noon, wearing little more than body paint and a banner that read “The World Is Watching – Ban Bullfighting”. Every year Irish Animal Rights Action Network members travel to Pamplona to take part in PETA’s Running of the Nudes which is a fun and humane alternative to the cruel running of bulls and bullfighting. Last year over 1000 people took part in this fun event, check out www.ARAN.ie to see more. read full story / add a comment

LEt it be known, recorded acknowledged & easy to find through search engines that during the nightfall which befell the coastal settlement of Rush [population 6,679] in the county of Dublin, the assizes of Fingal of the first to the second dates of the seventh month - A BIG BANG MORE OF A BOOM COMPLETE WITH RATTLES AND A BIT OF SUBSIDENCE AND TOTAL HORRIFIED EFFECTS LIKE wasn't really reported or paid attention to. The BBC sent their man in Rush, Lush and neighbouring Dunabate to talk to locals as the Gardai began their daylight search for bearded men with foreign accents and mindful of the historical resonance of Rush as being the location chosen for two movies shot in 1965 by the names of " The Face of Fu Man Chu", "Ten Little Indians" and the even more significant "Rocket to the Moon" in 1966 were quickly rumoured to extend their search to all strangers in general with or without a TinTin crest. read full story / add a comment ![]()

In Erris, protests continue every day at the site of the proposed refinery at Bellanaboy, County Mayo. Last Friday, June 29th, was the second anniversary of the imprisonment of the Rossport Five. The day saw the continuing of the operation to strip the surface peat away from the Bellanaboy refinery site, and as is now normal, local people protesting were joined by supporters of the Shell to Sea campaign from other parts of Ireland and abroad. As usual, the Garda response to the protests was brutal. One protester was arrested and many more were assaulted. Gardaí also threw activists into the deep ditches near the Bellanaboy site. Videos of the protests on Friday morning can be seen here: http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=kAXKHu3_bKo http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=tSMF4GgnC_I http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=u7jnUOq8LYA or check www.youtube.ie/shelltohell read full story / add a comment ![]()

3 years ago the state of Ethiopia began what would become a monumental struggle when they announced their intention to trademark their Coffee Bean. The Ethiopian highlands & the surrounding "horn of Africa" were the origin of the drink coffee as far back as the 9th century [common era]. Specifically the Ethiopian state wanted to assert internationally recognised intellectual copyright on a range of coffee beans which to this day are mostly cultivated in the east African state. Many welcomed the move as evidence that late 20th century capitalism which has seen ownership concepts extended to ideas, living organisms & even specific genecodes could be a game which the poorest states might play to their advantage as well. Then came the orchestrated response of the Seattle USA based multi-national corporation Starbucks. Earlier this month both the company and state came to a settlement. read full story / add a comment ![]()

A 2005 UNICEF report suggested 97%of Egyptian women between ages 15 and 49 had undergone some type of genital mutilation or circumcision. Last week ago Bodur Ahmed Shaker an 11 year old girl died after undergoing the operation at a private clinic in Minya province in the south of the state. Doctors at the clinic had suggested her death was due to a a heavy dose of anaesthetic and her operation is believed to have been a result of her parents wish to preserve her chastity.., Since then the Egyptian establishment has moved to close a final loop-hole in their legislation which had allowed a practise which has been common since Pharonic times to continue. The change to the law announced this afternoon followed statements on Islamic theology from the state mufti (supporting the end to this barbaric practice and reminding all it has no scriptural basis in either Quran or Talmud [old testament] ) read full story / add a comment ![]()

![]() ![]() We do not know if the new improved EC Constitution which will be voted in 2008 includes a 'God Clause' but we do know that the good German Doctor Kues has plans for the women of the EU, which is to promote the equality agenda through rediscovering the traditional family. This should make the Poles and the Right wing Irish who collude so diffidently in the oppression of women remarkably happy. http://www.eu2007.de or -www.eu2007.de: read full story / add a comment ![]()
