Greg Boertje-Obed, Fr. Carl Kabat OMI and Vietnam Veteran Michael Walli had no trouble finding Weapons of Mass Destruction. They looked in North Dakota rather than Iraq! Known as the "Weapons of Mass Destruction Here! Plowshares" they are presently imprisoned for their nonviolent disarmament work on an ISBM Missile Silo in North Dakota, USA. They are part of a growing body of folks imprisoned for resisting the war. Consider wrting a postacrd or letter to them! More background www.jonahhouse.org read full story / add a comment

As anyone that has followed the fortunes of the Shell to Sea campaign will know, under the often 'unflattering' luminance of the media spotlight, there appears an almost unhealthy association between some of those that 'strive' for impartiality and objectivity, whether it be in the media or in politics, and the corporation.

History records instances of powerful, belligerent nations invading and annexing weaker nations in their bid for world domination and plunder. Various pretexts are utilised to justify these attacks/invasions, the most familiar and infamous are the USS Liberty attack, the Tonkin Gulf incident and more recently the imaginary WMD 'threat'. These examples have one thing in common; they are all orchestrated in order to harness the public as a manageable resource to be used and abused by prevailing powers and to justify an otherwise illegal invasion or military aggression. Nations bent on world domination are extremely predictable; world domination is the folly of a powerful military and inept leadership – history is familiar with a multitude of conquering clowns known to us today as mass murderers. read full story / add a comment

The debate on the French Left about the forthcoming elections has parallels for the Left in Ireland – in particular for those leftwing Independent TDs and those on the Left who do not agree with supporting a government of the parties of the Right. In France the question is: should a united-left (anti-neoliberal) candidate support or be part of a government led by the Socialist Party (which will be a social-liberal or Blairite government)? In Ireland the question is similar: should the non-right-wing parties (Labour, Greens, Sinn Fein) be part of a government of the Right (FF, FG, PDs)? And should Independent TDs support a government of the Right? read full story / add a comment
