On Sunday April 17th at 2pm the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) marked Palestinian Prisoners Day with a demonstration at the Spire in O'Connell St, Dublin. The demonstration called for the release of all Palestinian political prisoners imprisoned by the Israeli State - those 'convicted' in Israeli Military courts and those interned without trial under the 'Administrative Detention' regime. This year there was a special focus on the issue of child prisoners - of which there are currently 216 (45 under the age of 16) being held in Israeli jails.[1] read full story / add a comment

Yet another split from the British SWP. About 40 have left. But how honest are they in their convictions? The resignation of Socialist Workers Party central committee member Chris Bambery on April 10 was rapidly followed by the departure of at least 38 comrades in Scotland two days later. These defectors are expected to formally announce their adherence to the Counterfire grouping of John Rees and Lindsey German sooner rather than later read full story / add a comment

Lamya Kaddor confronts the myths regarding the wearing of the Hijab. She shows that this is not an observance required by Islam. Rather it is an invention of misogynistic mullahs. Full text at link. However, if God had required a special head covering, would He not have said so explicitly? The khimâr thus merely constitutes a 'fashion accessory' according to the spirit of that age. Viewed rationally, functions consciously or unconsciously associated with head coverings across the course of history – such as protection against sand or evil influences – are all superannuated today and have lost their validity. People's powers of imagination have changed. read full story / add a comment

This initiative is the fruit of the connections between Reclaim the Fields, network of European farmers and landless peasants, and squatters in the ZAD. It is a call to all those who fight for the future of agriculture, those who have been giving life to the local resistance for so long, and who will not give in to resignation and all those who today want to join this struggle. read full story / add a comment
