A biomedical scientist who called her Portuguese neighbour a "Spanish whore" during a row over a fire alarm was cautioned by police for a hate crime and struck off. No wonder the cops have no time to solve burglaries.

When Ben Pile moved into a new house he got a nasty surprise. It had a prepayment meter that was about to run out of credit. Fixing this proved to be absurdly hard, which, presumably, is just what the green lobby wants.

Top Orangeman will contest poll for BNP
Irish News, 26 March 2010

by Barry McCaffrey

The Orange Order has refused to disassociate itself from a leading member who is due to stand as a BNP candidate in the Westminster election.

Yesterday the order was widely criticised after calling on members to protest against Pope Benedict's visit to England in September.

Last night it emerged that Nick Blake, a district master of the Orange Order in Devon, had been selected to stand for the far-right British National Party.

The order's leaderships in Northern Ireland and in England yesterday rejected calls from Alliance MLA Anna Lo to disassociate itself from Mr Blake, who will contest the poll in the constituency of Torridge and West Devon. read full story / add a comment

On Saturday, March 20th, the second demonstration in defence of Rozbrat took place. About 1,500 - 2,000 people from Poznan, Poland and from abroad took part in it. The demonstration started at 6.00 p.m. in the centre of Poznan. Many squatters from Berlin and different Polish and foreign cities arrived there. They were representing various social and political organizations. There were loads of banners with slogans in Polish, English and in German, saying eg. “City is not a company”, “Reclaim the city”, “Rozbrat not for sale”, “Stop the privatisation of public space”, “Rozbrat stays, no compromise”, “No to the culture of money” etc. The goal of the demo was to show our disobey to the neo-liberal politics of the city authorities, who represent the interests of business and also to show the potential investors that an attempt to evict us from there will be met with strong resistance and it will be really expensive. We're ready for direct and legal fight. read full story / add a comment

Leo Tolstoy, acclaimed Russian author of such classics like "War and Peace" once wrote a book entitled, "The Kingdom of God is within you". He envisaged that this book would be read by very few and those who did read it, religious and secular alike, would arrogantly dismiss it as rambling nonsense. Yet this book inspired celebrated figures of the 20th Century like Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Dorothy Day to leave their mark on history. Might it be that this book if read and understood by Christians worldwide, might just be a catalyst for ridding the mainstream Christian Churches of their corruption and superstition and instead turn people towards looking at Christianity as a new way of living, just like it was intended to be...the mind boggles... read full story / add a comment

In his latest column for the New Statesman, John Pilger describes the increasing American war front across the world: from Afghanistan to Africa and Latin America. This is the Third World War in all but name, waged by the only aggressive "ism" that denies it is an ideology and threatened not by introverted tribesmen in faraway places but by the anti-war instincts of its own citizens. read full story / add a comment

The 14 Raytheon accused are 9 women and 5 men, based in Derry, in the north of Ireland, who are facing criminal charges after they used Non Violent Direct Action to access the Raytheon Software plant in Derry, in an attempt to disarm the mainframe computer.

Raytheon are the world's largest manufacturer of missiles and the world's fifth largest weapons manufacturer.

Until they left in February 2010 (thanks to all the action taken against them), Raytheon's Derry software plant developed the firmware for transponders, targeting software and other crucial guidance system-related work for weapons.

Their factories globally manufacture Tomahawk Cruise missiles, Sidewinder missiles, Hellfire missiles, the "Bunker Buster" bombs, the delivery systems for Cluster bombs, White Phosphate and Napalm.
