Join us on Sat 3rd Oct at the rally at the Customs House, Dublin to protest against Oppressive Government Restrictions and Mandates and reject the new abnormal. Governments everywhere have made a grab for total power and are imposing Orwellian conditions over us since this Covid thing started last March. Governments are not in the habit of giving up power and must be challenged. Most people are just going along with the rules thinking that somehow it is all going to be lifted. It is not. It will only be lifted if the public show they don't accept them. It is time to stop sitting on the fence and getting up to make a difference. ... read full story / add a comment

Councilors from Fianna Fail, Green Party, Labour and Social Democrats have agreed to give land at O Devaney Gardens to Bartra Capital.
O Devaney Gardens was a working class flat complex on the edge of the Phoenix Park. For decades, it was run down by Dublin City Council and requests by tenants for proper maintenance were ignored.
Dublin City Council officials typically neglect inner city housing complexes in the hope that they can eventually move out the residents and turn them into posh private apartments.
The Fianna Fail-Green-Labour–Social Democrat coalition that run Dublin City Council complied with this disgraceful strategy. ... read full story / add a comment

Housing prices are skyrocketing in cities around the world. Incomes are not. Private equity firms have become the biggest landlords in the world, and the extent of the high-end land grab goes well beyond gentrification. Fredrik Gertten’s probing documentary follows Leilani Farha, the UN Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing as she travels the world in an effort to understand why we are being pushed out of our cities, and why affordable housing isn’t defined as a fundamental human right.
This screening will be followed by a panel discussion. ... read full story / add a comment

#FridaysForFuture is hashtag for the global “FridaysForFuture” Climate Strike started by Greta Thunberg last year and is aimed at trying to get people and government to act to do something in the face of the impending climate disaster bearing down on us all.
It is ironic that when it comes to climate change we are willing to risk of 1 in 2 chance off disaster, but ask anyone to step on a plane with a one in a thousand chance of crashing and you will get absolutely no takers.
In recent days Lorna Gold who wrote the book: Climate Generation: Awakening to Our Children's Future appeared on the Ryan Turbidity radio show to bring attention to the protests happening every Friday in Dublin outside Leinster House ... read full story / add a comment

In today's society, ‘more education' is marketed as the cure-all for economic and social ills. Conventional wisdom suggests that larger education budgets reduce social exclusion and inequality; that increasing numbers of university graduates turbo-charge growth; and that more classroom learning creates greater mobility. But if these ideas are true, then why has productivity growth slowed at a time when there are more graduates than ever before? Why, then, does social mobility also seem so stubbornly low and inequality so high in this hyper-educated environment? ... read full story / add a comment
