The campaign against Shell’s attempts to force a high-powered gas pipeline through the Rossport area of Co. Mayo continues (see http://www.corribsos.com for details of the Shell to Sea campaign or http://www.indymedia.ie for news reports). The Rossport Solidarity Camp was established in the summer of 2005 and since then has provided an important focus for campaigners travelling to Mayo to support the local struggle. Here we speak to Sean Mallory, a WSM member who has spent a considerable amount of time at the camp, about his experiences. Please note that the views expressed are his own and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Camp. read full story / add a comment

35 million euro has been spent to upgrade the Cliffs of Moher visitor centre. On Thursday 8th February, Project leader Ger Dollard was there to greet Bertie Ahern and invited guests only, to the opening ceremony of the 'New Visitor Experience'. While Katherine Webster, Project Director, was live on air for Clare fm giving Morning Focus presenter Cian Ó Síocháin a tour of the new centre and celebrating a photo exhibition celebration of traditional musicians and cliff buskers such as Dinny Jim McMahon and the Russell brothers; local residents including 'Timber Tony', another local whistle player and busker, were shamefully being refused entry to the visitor centre in favour of the business people of North Clare, Bertie Ahern, other Fianna Fáilers and their kind.

Robert Anton Wilson or "RAW" managed to achieve something quite extra-ordinary in his life. He coined words for a sub-culture, ensured the legacy of William Seward Burrough's "23", explored time slips and James Joyce whilst living in Ireland in the book of the illustration (& and being a generally nice but somewhat weird guy). What was really cool about the man - was his lack of paranoia. More than any other contemporary American writer he had mananged to make a comfortable living from life options which normally we do not counsel the young to pursue. He asked us to ignore and see the fnords just to test us if we knew they were there or not...
to wonder about the wires going into our houses and if they ever left.......
to think about how fake money really was.
Robert Anton Wilson - novelist, essayist, philosopher, psychologist, futurologist, anarchist, and conspiracy theory researcher.

Not since Bob Dylan went electric and Phil Ochs succumbed to his demons has America had a “protest singer” and songwriter as compelling as David Rovics.

Now Rovics, the favoured musical voice of the newly revived US anti-war movement, is doing a short tour of Ireland from February 18th to 26th – and splitting the proceeds with peace activists here.

“David Rovics is a guy George W. Bush would probably like to clamp in chains at Guantanamo Bay,” says BBC DJ Andy Kershaw. (Rovics has a song about Bush called “Moron”.) Cindy Sheehan calls Rovics “the peace poet and troubadour for our times”.

Rovics is visiting Ireland later this month and will play benefit gigs for Anti-War Ireland in Cork and Dublin. read full story / add a comment
