Last Sunday in solidarity with the people of Rossport, Ógra Shinn Féin held a protest outside the offices of Statoil Ireland in Dublin. The protest was to highlight the continue involvement of Statoil, a Norwegian state industry, in the theft of Irish natural resources and endangerment of the Rossport community, through dirty deals with Shell and the 26 county government. read full story / add a comment

Young Republican delegates from across Ireland and representatives of International youth movements mobilised in Dublin this weekend to take part in a packed and upbeat Ógra Shinn Féin National Congress. Sinn Fein President, Gerry Adams delivered the main address and helped launch Ógra’s new drugs and alcohol campaign called N.A.R.C. (Not Another Ravaged Community) campaign. The Sinn Féin President told the assembled; Comhdháil Náisúnta, that the Lisbon treaty was a bad deal for Ireland. “The Lisbon Treaty, like many of the treaties that went before it, does not deliver reform, efficiency or democracy. It is a bad deal for Ireland. We deserve and can achieve better.” read full story / add a comment

At around lunchtime in Europe, when we're grabbing sandwiches or sitting down to plates of pasta or green salads (or skulling pints in the Stag's Head) the financial markets in Wall Street open. Usually they react to the morning's trading in the European markets, and so US traders seeing falling prices as a buying opportunity can offset a downward trend. Yesterday however, the holiday for Martin Luther King meant the falls on the global markets went from bad, to worse, to unbelievably bad, while in America the boys in the sharp suits were at home celebrating racial diversity and civil rights. read full story / add a comment

Five of Nato’s top strategists have issued a” radical manifesto” urging the alliance’s member states to prepare for nuclear first strikes in order to counter fanatics who , they claim , are bent on destroying the West’s “way of life” . The vehement language of the manifesto has puzzled some commentators . Robert Cooper, an influential shaper of European foreign and security policy in Brussels is quoted in the Guardian article as saying "Maybe we are going to use nuclear weapons before anyone else, but I'd be wary of saying it out loud." The 150 page manifesto will be delivered to the Pentagon over the next ten days . It is issued at a time of crisis for NATO whose conventional forces face the prospect of defeat in Afghanistan . According to the Guardian, it was written following discussions with active NATO commanders and policymakers, many of whom are unable or unwilling to publicly air their views. read full story / add a comment

A certain hysteria has it certain sectors of Spanish & Catalan public opinion following the arrests of 14 suspected Islamist terrorists in the city of Barcelona between Friday night & Saturday morning. In an operation involving the Spanish secret service (the CNI) the Guardia Civil & local regional Catalan police (Mossos d'esquadra) co-ordinated raids made on a bakery, mosque & several flats in the Raval district of central Barcelona. Immediately news services both in the Spanish state & abroad cited further co-operation with amongst others the intelligence services of France & the UK. The Spanish state will celebrate a general election on the 9th of March almost 4 years after the M11 massacre which was falsely attributed to ETA by the then right wing regime. Nobody wants to talk about bombs now - but we should all the same. read full story / add a comment

At Killarney District Court, Co. Kerry on Tuesday 15th January 2008, Mr Niall Harnett of Doonagore, Liscannor, Co Clare was acquitted of 2 public order charges following a ruling by Judge James O'Connor, who found that there was no evidence of any crime committed and dismissed the charges after a full hearing of the matter which lasted about 1½ hours. Garda Brendan Cronin KY144 who initiated the charges, and Garda David Hannon KY180 both testified in court, but cross-examination by Mr Harnett, who represented himself, revealed that the Gardaí had neither evidence nor reasonable cause to suspect that Mr Harnett had committed any offence. Inspector Barry O’Rourke, prosecuting for the DPP, never even suggested foul play either and could only resort to smear tactics and prejudice in raising Mr Harnett’s Shell to Sea profile as ‘a protester with an interest in shoving his nose into business that didn’t concern him’, and had to be reminded by the judge that this was no crime. read full story / add a comment

The US puppet government in Iraq, headed by Nouri al-Maliki reinstituted the death penalty in 2004. Since then, they have carried out executions under the watchful eye of the United States, itself a country which kills its own citizens every year. This state sponsored murder in Iraq and the United States is however dwarfed by Communist China, where thousands are killed every year. read full story / add a comment

If I was them buildermen I'd give up and go home or take them diggers and go digging for gold in the mountains. The shit is hitting the fans BIGTIME.
