Cork S2S activists and supporters will be travelling to Mayo this Friday to take part in the National Day of Protest called by the community campaign in Erris. Once again, Shell to Sea campaigners and supporters will be showing solidarity with and lending their numbers to the ongoing protest by the local community. For seven years now concerned local citizens have opposed the unsafe and unprecedented Corrib Gas project, and they have had the broad support of the community for most of this time. Excepting those few individuals whose business interests have been co-opted by Shell et al, the community’s support for the Shell to Sea campaign endures, and has even deepened. read full story / add a comment

From June to mid-August, postal workers in the North and in Britain were taking industrial action. Management are on the offensive, and the action was to protect existing conditions.

In a display of cross-border common purpose An Post bosses are also having a go, with conditions under attack as a prelude to selling off parts of the service to private companies. So, An Post workers have a special interest in how the Communications Workers Union dispute progresses

N. Chomsky on the likelihood of a USA attack on Iran: "They're desperate. Everything they touch is in ruins. They're even in danger of losing control over Middle Eastern oil. [...] Under these circumstances, they're unpredictable. They might go for broke, and hope they can salvage something from the wreckage." The following is not intended to be an attempt at a comprehensive analysis of the current situation in the Occupied Territories of Palestine. Instead, it is a reflection on the past few weeks I have spent with the International Solidarity Movement in the city of Hebron and its environs and what brought me here in the first place. It is completely subjective and deliberately intended to be so. It is merely a personal reflection, and therefore should not be taken as representative of the views of the ISM. read full story / add a comment

You don't have to be Harry Houdini to get away from the clutches of the cops at the Rossport protests, since it seems their hearts are not in the role of protesting Shell shareholders' interests as much as they once were.

The Mc Cann Parents with the Pope as he blessed a photo of "Maddy".
international / crime and justice / opinion/analysis Saturday September 08, 2007 15:42 by +   text 18 comments (last - thursday september 13, 2007 14:12)   image 1 image
Yesterday evening a rippling realisation which may yet become a tidal wave of emotions hit the copy editors of almost all commercial news entities on this continent. Editors of both newspapers and television news programs had to make a very quick decision as to how they would report the naming of Kate Mc Cann as a formal suspect in the case of her daughter's disappearance & then then subsequent naming of her husband. For this has never a run of the mill child abduction case. British commerical media raised an award fund of 2 million pounds sterling whilst the length & breadth of Europe's tourist destinations saw her photo displayed on posters with the phrase "look into my eyes" more often than not written in English. Her case was linked by her parents and the band of loyal followers who charted their unprecedented campaign to one other case of a disappeared child in Spain whilst sighting of the Mc Cann infant were made & investigated from Morrocco to Spain, Malta to Portugal. read full story / add a comment

The Irish Times this Morning 08/09/09 features headlines regarding Eamon Ryan's
'Signal' that the Green Party may be supporting the Referendum on the EU proposed for
this country in 2008. The paper's Front page states that Minister Ryan believes that the
'accrued benefits' of EU membership signal a change in attitude by the Greens toward
their EU policy. This is media manipulation of the highest order which accomplishes two
things:-

1. It assures investors in Corporate Europe that the Greens are 'onside'.
2.It is part of a campaign instigated by Dick Roche TD, who assumes responsibility for
both selling the public and manistream media the benefits of EU expansion and
corporatism.
