This is a response to the SWP's reply which appeared on thier website in late August. Their material was in reply to previous Socialist Party material on the issues of left co-operation, new mass workers party and left election slates. The Socialist Party believes our reply is an accuarte assesment of the discussions that took place among groups on the left in the run in to the recent local elections and outlines our views on many of the issues facing the left. The government is trying to make ordinary people pay for the financial crisis. NAMA will bail out the property developers and wealthy bankers who caused this crisis to the tune of up to €90billion. This will be done by savaging public services, slashing the wages of ordinary workers, throwing lots more workers on to the dole and cutting social welfare. read full story / add a comment

CONCERNED FAMILIES AGAINST DRUGS (CFAD) was established in September, 2008 as a community-based, radical and campaigning pressure group. In response to growing problem of young people involved in drug abuse and associated criminality in the Ardoyne area of North Belfast. We consist of local parents, residents and community activists committed to addressing the scourge of drugs and building a safer community. Our aim is to tackle drug dealers, through an effective anti-drug campaign and raising awareness about the dangers of drugs. Since our foundation, CFAD has provided a focus to reduce the availability of drugs. As part of their National Congress, Ógra Shinn Féin are hosting a public talk titled; ‘Ireland’s Future? Free, Green and Left’. The public talk is open to everyone and will be held upstairs in the Felons Club, Falls Road, Belfast on Saturday 14th November at 3pm sharp. The speakers include Eoin O’Broin from Sinn Féin, Steven Agnew of the Green Party and Donal Lyons, from Labour. Ireland’s youngest Councillors Johnny McGibbon and Charlene O’Hara, the youngest MLA Daithí McKay and Ógra Shinn Féin National Organiser Barry McColgan gathered at the Felons Club in Belfast today to promote the republican youth movement’s upcoming National Congress being held in the city in less than 2 weeks from the 13 – 15 November. The national youth event will see over 100 delegates converge in Belfast, to discuss, and debate the most pressing political issues affecting Irish youth, and plan the upcoming year for Ireland’s fastest growing, most active youth wing. The republican youth movement will also be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the founding of Na Fianna Éireann, and remembering the young Fians who died in Ireland’s freedom struggle by hosting a special dinner dance in the Holiday Inn on Ormeau Avenue in Belfast on Saturday 14th November.
