Hotelier plans to throw turkeys off tower to see if they fly ... This was the brainchild of a hotelier Joe Mahon who now wanted to throw turkeys from a 100ft roof for fun to see if they can fly. It’s a stunt for publicity by this sick bumkin in Fermanagh. However as he now says he never said 'live' in his news release he insists he is using toy turkeys. Response received from Joe Mahon- This is the response several folk have had from Joe Mahon - read full story / add a comment

An important study which illustrates the paucity of US media reports of civilian deaths in Iraq. hence it is hardly shocking that US citizens are unaware tof the true extent of civilian casualties. Full story at related link. In February of 2007 Associated Press conducted a survey of 1,002 adults across the United States about their perceptions of the war in Iraq. Whilst the respondents accurately estimated the death toll of U.S. soldiers (the median estimate was 2,974 while the actual toll at the time was 3,100), they grossly underestimated the number of Iraqi civilian casualties (the median answer was 9,890 at a time when several estimates put the toll at least 10 times that number and some as high as 50 times that number). read full story / add a comment

Last week a consortium of three companies bought a Sellafield site with a view to a 2016 expansion of UK nuclear energy provision, this emanates from the *Entente Formidable* fiscal deal between the Heir to Slitherin' Gordon Brown (pal of Alistair Campbell , currently being investigated for Provence parties and expenses and best matey of Toxic Blair, who really had to go and is not getting Europe BTW) and the Gallic Shrimp Premier Sarkozy. Heres the Contract site which the Irish Times did not make mention of during the sale period : [] http://www.contractjournal.com/Articles/2009/10/28/7308....html read full story / add a comment ![]()

Since when does sharing the pain equate to someone not being able to afford their mortgage on a foreign property and someone not being able to afford rent and childcare? Listening to the media is something which should be done with a health warning. We are in the middle of a propaganda war for the hearts and minds of the people living on this island. The question for the ruling classes is how far can they push the ordinary working and unemployed before it spills over into civil unrest? The question for the workers and unemployed is how to reclaim the unions from the 09 Mercedes class running them, get solidarity among all the workers of this country and figure out creative solutions to sharing the wealth, dismantling the dominative violent enforced power of the state and creating a society where it is easier for people to do good. read full story / add a comment ![]()

The past week has shown the extent to which Shannon airport has been deliberately run down as a civilian airport and turned into a US military airbase. I spent over two hours there each day, Wed 4th, Friday 6th and Sunday 8th. During these times, the number of aircraft tansiting the airport associated with the US military exceeded civilian passenger aircraft. Aer Lingus, Ryanair and Air France are gradually abandoning services from Shannon while its use as a military airbase is increasing. read full story / add a comment ![]()

For years now, we have been reading about plans for the Leinster Orbital Route (LOR) or Dublin Outer Orbital Route (DOOR). Earlier this year, the NRA published a Feasibility Report from 2007, which shows route of the LOR passing along the side of the Hill of Tara. Notably, the route goes about 1km north of the Blundelstown Interchange, between the N3 and M3 motorway. However, last week Meath County Councillors were told to freeze planning on a 2km corridor on either side of the route. So, it is possible the route will pass directly through the Blundelstown Interchange, the Hill of Tara complex and the proposed UNESCO World Heritage Site. In fact, it appears that this was the plan all along, and that the route has been chosen before the public consultation even begins. read full story / add a comment

The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign will be taking part in this year’s International Week of Solidarity called by the Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign (http://www.stopthewall.org). Our aim is to promote as many different voices showing solidarity with the Palestinian people as possible, and to raise awareness among mainstream Irish civil society of Israel’s apartheid policies, the ongoing plight of Palestinians, and their heroic struggle to resist ethnic cleansing. To this end we will be hosting film screenings, public meetings and fundraisers in Cork, Tullamore, Limerick, Belfast, Maynooth, Galway, Kilkenny, Derry and Dublin. Please refer to the brochure for full details of the events ( Link: http://ipsc.ie/pdf/wos2009brochure.pdf ) - and please try to come along and/or get involved! read full story / add a comment
